The diamond tattoo meaning can range from power and invincibility, all the way to love.
Diamond tattoos are some of my favorite to design. This is such a classic idea - still with so many designs to choose from, I wanted to make sure that my clients knew the exact meaning behind their ink.
Here is what I discovered on my journey to learn more about diamonds and tattoos based on them.
Diamonds have been around for quite some time. So, if you are searching for diamond tattoo meaning, then you first need a history lesson.
Let's first begin with Ancient Egypt. The pharaohs believed them to be symbols of power and truth. They also considered diamonds as the symbol for the sun and the origin of life.
The Ancient Greek and Roman societies had an interesting attitude towards diamonds. Rather than seeing them as precious stones, they were said to be the tears of Gods or shards of stars fallen from the sky.
Some of the myths even state that Cupid's arrow was tipped with a diamond. It could be one of the origins for why diamonds are associated with everlasting love.
As such, they were given the symbolic meaning of the Gods' work on earth. The diamonds were highly valued but not in an economic sense. They were considered holy objects and traditionally only used in temples.
Only the extremely rich could afford to wear or use them outside of this setting. So, the diamonds were associated with wealth too. There was also some belief that diamonds held magical powers and could make warriors strong and invincible in battle. For centuries, diamonds were associated with this, well into the Middle Ages.
In fact, the word diamond comes from the Greek word "adamas" which means unbreakable.
Diamonds in India were also revered. In ancient times, it was believed that they could repel evil forces and curses. The sparkle from the stone would simply reflect any evil that came your way.
A diamond tattoo has more modern meanings than you may have initially realized too.
Natural diamonds are incredibly rare and it can take a lot of effort to find them. If you see yourself as being unique or having rare characteristics, then you may find that you share certain elements with diamonds.
In general, though, if you find that you're different to others - in the way that you look, behave, or work, you may think of yourself as a diamond in the rough. As you can imagine, a diamond tattoo would be the perfect analogy for you.
One of the diamond tattoo meanings has to do with the beauty associated with diamonds. Their color, cut, and clarity make these one of the most sought-after objects on earth.
Therefore, having a diamond tattooed on your person could mean that you identify with such beauty. However, this doesn't just have to do with external looks, though. The diamond tattoo meaning could have to do with your inner beauty as well.
Diamonds are also one of the strongest substances in the natural world. It is certainly the toughest of all the precious stones. Did you know that they use them on the ends of drills when carving into rock?
If you see this kind of strength in yourself, then the diamond tattoo meaning for you is clear!
Another diamond tattoo meaning could be regarding how diamonds are formed. They are actually comprised of carbon deposits, the same thing that coal is made of. It is only billions of years of pressure in the Earth's mantle that result in this precious stone.
Therefore, the diamond tattoo meaning for you could be how you were once made of rough raw materials. However, with time and the many barriers and challenges that you faced, you turned into a diamond. So, this can be a symbol of your inner strength.
Of course, if you are like a lot of people, you probably associate diamonds with engagement rings and love. Why is this? Well, it actually has to do with clever advertising! The DeBeers company who owned mines in South Africa started a campaign about how diamonds are forever.
After all, if you want something to last for eternity, diamonds will certainly do the trick. This quickly caught on as people wanted a symbol for a forever love and the diamond seemed a perfect way to do so.
You can find diamond tattoos on both men and women. So, what does a diamond tattoo mean on a man?
For the most part, the meaning is the same. The diamond tattoos represent ancient wisdom, strength, purity, toughness, and beauty.
In case you are wondering: What does diamond tattoo under eye mean?
This is difficult to know for certain. A diamond eye tattoo meaning depends on the person. In some cases, it can be a prison tattoo, indicating time served. In other instances, it could simply be for decorative purposes.
Before you get your diamond tattoo, I want you to know that not all associations with diamonds and diamond tattoos are positive.
The reality is that many of the diamonds mined in Africa are conflict diamonds, also known as blood diamonds. They have been mined in war zones and are often used to pay for civil wars.
To add to this, the poor miners working the diamond mines do so under terrible conditions. There are many mine collapses and lives lost, all going unreported due to how frequent this is.
Here are the different meanings of diamond tattoos, along with some great tattoo designs.
Not a fan of complex diamond tattoo designs? Well, this isn't a problem. Thanks to the unique diamond shape, even the most minimalistic tattoo can be identified as a diamond.
Of course, if you want to include other symbols or other elements to the tattoo to add meaning, you are free to do so.

This simply refers to a traditional diamond - of course, the diamond is clear rather than white but if you want your diamond tattoo to look realistic, then you have to add some color to it.
The thing about the white diamond tattoo is that you can't actually draw it as an all white piece of body art. This is because the tattoo will end up looking rather flat. To add a shine and a more three dimensional element to it, some blue or black must be added.

If you imagine that diamonds are rare, then blue diamonds are one of the rarest of these gemstones. In fact, it is a fluke of nature. So, the only way that you can come across this kind of diamond is entirely by accident!
As you can imagine, this ensures that there is quite a bit of meaning to this stone. It can indicate another level of rarity. It can also be a symbol of how the best and most precious sometimes happen without any planning at all!
Now, the thing to keep in mind about the blue diamond tattoo is that it has to be shaded in a very particular way. The tattoo design must be a very light blue - remember that too much blue will make your diamond tattoo look like a sapphire. So, color choice and shading is key here.

When it comes to the rarest of diamonds, the red diamond just may take this title. Miners can go years without ever coming across this kind of gemstone.
The color red is usually associated with passion and love. Due to this, your red diamond tattoo can signify a true and everlasting love. Or, if you have experienced unimaginable heartbreak, it can even indicate a lost love.
Once again, be mindful of how these tattoos are drawn. You don't want to include too much red. Instead, opt for a more transparent red for this kind of ink.
