Gaara's Tattoo Meaning

Origin Of The Gaara Tattoos

The Gaara tattoo designs originated from the anime character Gaara created by Masashi Kishimoto in the manga naruto series. The kanji tattoo is done on Gaara's forehead and it translates into 'love'. Gaara got the kanji tattoo which signifies love but serves as a symbol of a demon loving only himself.

The decision to get such a tattoo wasn't a random choice by Gaara, but a choice that he made as a result of the series of events that took place in his life, right from his birth till he was able to understand what love entails. Let us look into the life of Gaara to help you understand the significance of the Gaara tattoo.

Gaara's Mother and Gaara's Birth

Gaara, also known as 'the golden child, prince of the sand gourd, fifth kazekage' was born in the hidden sand village and was considered a shinobi in the shinobi world. His father was the fourth kazekage and was in desperate need of a replacement (the next kazekage) that could control the one-tailed beast and protect their small village.

His siblings were not fit to become the host of the one-tailed beast form and Gaara's father wanted at all costs to find a replacement for when he was no more. Luckily, he got a child that was compatible with the one-tailed beast but at the cost of the life of his wife.

Gaara was not a regular kid, he was born with power and was groomed to become the ultimate weapon of the sand village. His power prompted the decision to isolate Gaara to teach him how to control his abilities to avoid hurting the other kids. Thus growing up, Gaara was always isolated from other children. He only had a teddy bear to play with while he took lessons in isolation.

He didn't understand his difference and powers and would try to interact with people in the village but they avoided him since most were warned that he was a dangerous child. The only connection Gaara had with the outer world was through his uncle who was a father figure to him.

Growing Up

Since he was mostly isolated, Gaara didn't understand a lot of things. He didn't understand the concept of pain and begged his uncle Yashamaru to teach him what pain was. After the explanation, Gaara realized that he had great pain in his heart because he wasn't loved by anyone.

Yashamaru told Gaara that he was loved by his mother and himself and that should be sufficient reason for Gaara to be happy. This made Gaara happy and he wanted to share the joy with the villagers too. It was received as hostility and while Gaara was trying to explain to them that all he wanted was friends. He almost injured the other villagers and was stopped from injuring them badly by the intervention of Yashamaru which he ended up wounding instead.

Gaara's Shell

With age, his powers were becoming overwhelming and Gaara's father resented him for it and planned to assassinate Gaara. The task to kill Gaara was taken on by his uncle Yashamaru. Yashamaru took on the task to prevent Gaara from hating his father. During the assassination attack, Gaara was able to overcome the assassin. He was curious to know who tried to kill him and was extremely shocked when he came to realize that it was his uncle. His uncle Yashamaru lied when Gaara confronted him so he would think he hated him. He confessed that he didn't like Gaara and blamed him for his sister's (Gaara's mother) death.

After this false realization, Gaara grew angry with the world and became a shell of himself. Gaara felt extreme pain and this led him to use his sand to create a brand on his forehead which represents self-love. He also became a dreaded ninja that killed without feeling because he felt like he was doomed to a life of hatred and the only person who could love him was himself.

Gaara continued to live in pain and was seen as a dangerous person throughout most of the anime series. His redemption came when he met the boy naruto who was able to get to him with his words. Naruto told him about his troubled youth and how he was able to overcome the pain he kept inside for a really long time.

Gaara's Symbol and Gaara's Tattoo Meanings

The tattoo on his forehead translates into the 'Demon loving only himself. This birthed the Gaara tattoos which are usually done by lots of people for a variety of reasons.

A large majority of people who get the Gaara tattoo designs are anime fans who love naruto and are fans of the fictional character Gaara. They usually get the tattoo on their forehead just like Gaara has, to show their love for their favorite character. Others get the same tattoo on a different spot like the neck, back, upper arm, or forearms.

Some get the Gaara tattoo art with an image of Gaara's eye and eyebrow drawn close to the tattoo. The people who get this tattoo design are those who relate more to the character. Those who felt lots of pain with how Gaara was treated by other villagers and his family while growing up.

A few get the tattoo in conjunction with other naruto inspired tattoos like the naruto seal, the Sasuke, and the 'X' tattoo. This is my favorite way of getting the Gaara tattoo design since it makes it easy to express your love for Gaara and the whole naruto anime and manga series. Naruto fans should seriously consider these kinds of designs.

Another way of rocking Gaara's brand is by adding an image that shows Gaara in an action pose. You can also get a design of Gaara standing or posing next to the tailed beast. There are lots of other ways you can rock this tattoo, and we'll be seeing them in this article. All you have to do is take your unique and creative idea of the Gaara you'd like to go to a tattoo studio to get it done.

Gaara Tattoo Art For Inspiration

Gaara's Eye With The Gaara Tattoo

If you're like me, then you probably always wondered why Gaara's eyes weren't like that of other anime characters. This is because as explained earlier, Gaara had a rough and sorrowful childhood. He was always sad and alone and faced lots of mental and emotional distress while growing up, so the character was depicted to look sad just like the storyline.

A different source suggests that Gaara appears with large eyebags always to show how he was mentally distressed and found it difficult to sleep or rest.

Most of the Gaara tattoo designs featured here show just his eye with Gaara's brand above or close to it. This tattoo can serve as a reminder of how you've got it easier in life compared to other people and how you should always treat everyone with love and care regardless of their differences.

Kanji, Naruto Seal, Sasuke and 'X' Tattoos

This is for the fans of the naruto series. You can rock your fourth kazekage tattoo with other naruto tattoo images like the seal and Sasuke tattoo images. The tattoo designs are usually done in a similar pattern, with the Gaara tattoo at the top and the 3 other parts of the tattoo drawn below it in a vertical manner.

The arms, forearms, thighs, and legs are great spots of choice for this design. The design is more long than wide and would look great in a long slender body part like the limbs.

Monster Face and Gaara Tattoo Meaning

Even though Gaara the outcast turned out to be a protagonist in naruto, let's not forget that Gaara was once an antagonist. His nature and deep hatred for others stem from how Gaara's family resented Gaara. He was filled with anger and hatred and Gaara decided to become the monster that everyone thought of him as.

The Gaara tattoo design featured here shows him in his early days when he was filled with so much hate and was called a monster. The tattoos are done flawlessly by the tattoo artist showing Gaara with the beast, either defending himself or his community.

Gaara Tattoo and Thunder

A unique and creative idea that you can use to rock your Gaara tattoo is by adding thunder around the Gaara tattoo. The thunder addition to the tattoo design makes it look way cooler than the plain Gaara tattoo, while it retains that simple look.
